Seagrass Village of Port Orange & The Cove at Marsh Landing

Updated: September 30, 2022 @ 5:11 PM EST

Seagrass Village of Port Orange sustained some flooding damage on its first floor during Tropical Storm Ian.

To help the community and for the safety of their residents, The Cove at Marsh Landing is opening their doors to their Memory Care residents so they will be safe while the remediation company cleans up the water and everything that comes with it. The company says the remediation should only take a few weeks.

The majority of their residents will be heading to our sister community in Titusville, The Canopy at Hickory Creek, but there may be some new faces in The Cove’s Memory Care soon.

If you have any questions about a resident who is currently at Seagrass Village of Port Orange, please call Executive Director Sandra Davis at (386) 506-1387.

The Colonnade at Carrollwood

Updated: September 30, 2022 @ 4:56 PM EST

All is going fine right now, as our generator is still working. TECO, the power company, has found downed power lines behind the community and believes this to be the culprit for loss of power to the community. They are working to get that sorted out.

Seagrass Village of Port Orange & The Canopy at Hickory Creek

Updated: September 30, 2022 @ 4:29 PM EST

Due to first-floor flooding, some of Seagrass Village of Port Orange Memory Care residents are being temporarily moved to The Canopy at Hickory Creek in Titusville, and others are heading to The Cove at Marsh Landing in Jacksonville Beach, while the remediation company cleans up the water and everything that comes with it. The company says the remediation should only take a few weeks.

If you have any questions about a resident who is currently at Seagrass Village of Port Orange, please call Executive Director Sandra Davis at (386) 506-1387.

Seagrass Village of Port Orange

Updated: September 30, 2022 @ 3:18 PM EST

From Seagrass Village of Port Orange:

We have been calling and contacting families today, however, some of our outgoing calls have gone unanswered. If you have a loved one in Memory Care and have not been spoken to by us, please call our Executive Director Sandra Davis at (386) 506-1387 as soon as possible.

--

When then Tropical Storm Ian made its way over the Florida peninsula, it dumped an unprecedented amount of water along central Florida, specifically Port Orange.

And the Seagrass Village of Port Orange community has also been affected.

Our first-floor residents were moved to the second floor of our community due to water inundation. A water remediation team was called in Thursday afternoon to start the clean-up process; however, the cleanup timeline is estimated as a few weeks.

Our only option is temporarily moving the majority of our Memory Care residents to our sister community to our south in Titusville, The Canopy at Hickory Creek, and the others to our northern sister community in Jacksonville Beach, The Cove at Marsh Landing. We want to be clear; this is temporary and we’re only doing this to ensure the clean-up process is done with our residents’ safety in mind.

We are relocating residents over the next three days (depending on the moving company), and the first group is going today and will be moved to The Canopy at Hickory Creek in Titusville.

All residents are safe, and the transfer is being done until the restoration of the Memory Care unit can be completed. All Independent Living and Assisted Living residents are being moved to the second floor until the process is complete.

Again, if you have any questions or have not been contacted, please call our Executive Director Sandra Davis at (386) 506-1387.

South Carolina Communities

Updated: September 28, 2022 @ 12:40 PM EST

A Hurricane Warning has been issued by the National Hurricane Center for the entire coast of South Carolina from the Savannah River to Little River Inlet.

The center of Ian has emerged into the western Atlantic Ocean to the north of Cape Canaveral with the official track forecast shifting to the east, consistent with the latest consensus guidance.

Ian should move over the Gulf Stream tonight and tomorrow for a longer period of time than previously anticipated, which should maintain Ian's central convection. Additionally, an increased pressure gradient on the northwestern side from a stationary front near the southeastern US, should provide a boost to the wind speeds on that side of the storm.

The NHC now expects Ian to become a hurricane again by this evening. As the system approaches South Carolina, Ian should maintain this intensity, and Hurricane Warnings have been issued for the entire coast of South Carolina.

All Communities

Updated: September 27, 2022 @ 9:45 AM EST

Each one of our senior living communities within the Cone of Uncertainty is preparing for Hurricane Ian, which is expected to spend only spend a few hours over western Cuba, and little overall change in strength is likely during that time.

The center should emerge over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico later this morning (Tuesday), where warm water and wind conditions are expected to allow for additional intensification, and the National Hurricane Center forecast calls for Ian to reach category 4 strength.

By 24 to 36 hours, increasing southwesterly vertical wind shear and drier mid-level air are likely to result in some gradual weakening.

However, Ian is still expected to be a major hurricane when it reaches the Florida west coast.

Our priority, as always, is the safety of our senior living residents, and staff. With this in mind, we will continue to actively monitor the approaching storm.

All Communities

Updated: September 26, 2022 @ 7:36 PM EST

As of 5:00 PM EST, Hurricane Ian has made an expected turn toward the north-northwest. The hurricane will move north-northwestward to northward over the next day or so as it is steered by a mid-level ridge to the east. A turn to the  north-northeast with a decrease in forward speed is forecast on Wednesday and Thursday as the center of Ian moves near the west coast of Florida.

The slower forward motion is likely to prolong the storm surge, wind, and rainfall impacts, especially along the west coast of Florida. The latest track guidance has come into better agreement on this scenario, although it is noted that small deviations to the shore-parallel track could have large implications on the impacts at particular locations along the west coast of Florida.

The National Hurricane Center track forecast has again been adjusted slightly eastward at 48-72 hours, which follows the latest trends in the global model guidance.

All Communities

Updated: September 26, 2022 @ 4:34 PM EST

As always, our priority is the safety of our residents and staff. We are actively monitoring the approaching storm, now Hurricane Ian, and will follow the mandates provided by local, and state officials.

Please note we have processes and procedures for weather of this nature.

We will post more updates as they are made available.
