Leadership & Team

Everyone on the team is important and plays an important part in our mission to provide the best senior living experience possible.

Executive Leadership

Every member of our board of directors is a thought leader who has made significant contributions to our society. Each one brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization.

Don W. Bishop

Chief Executive Officer

I’m Don Bishop, the owner and an original founder of the company. It is my privilege to lead a great team of individuals that, collectively, strive to exceed the expectations of our owners, residents, and guests. One of my goals for our team is to transform the standard by which people view senior housing.

I did not set out to work in this industry. After graduating with a degree in Economics from Florida State University, I went to work for a healthcare consulting firm, monitoring trends in healthcare through market evaluations of economic, demographic, and service utilization databases. Ultimately, it was the frustration of seeking an acceptable retirement community for my aunt, that steered my future course toward the creation of better options for our aging population.

Senior housing has changed significantly in the last few decades. An industry that was once perceived as warehouses for the old, is evolving with specialized care, care assistance and residential “living” environments. SRI Management is becoming a leader in this evolution, combining new technologies that improve quality of life, and standards from the world of hospitality, that shift attitudes toward “enhancing your stay” rather than “enduring your life.”

Today, we have the right corporate team to shape a bright future. However, we know we are only as good as the visionary owners we align with, and the caring team members at our communities and properties. It’s important to all of us that we choose wisely.

Todd Filippone

President

As SRI Management's President, my role is to develop strategies that improve the overall performance of the company while evaluating and considering opportunities for expanding our portfolio. I also work on building and maintaining relationships with partners in the senior housing sector, both for current collaborations and future endeavors.

Working alongside developers, from the conceptual stage to opening the doors of a community, has allowed me to gain great perspective in different markets, price points, and future resident needs and wants.

Community acquisitions have allowed me to oversee the due diligence process, from licensure to the operational transition of all departments.

I volunteered at a young age in a skilled nursing home and eventually became a maintenance assistant during the summer months to eventually move into community operations after graduating from California University of Pennsylvania. Senior housing is the only industry I have ever known, and genuinely believe those experiences in multiple Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states over my career have allowed me to understand various state regulations and markets.

The future of the senior housing industry is bright. At SRI Management, we possess the unique ability to quickly adapt to the industry or a specific market to ensure operational needs are met.

Shelley Kaiser

Chief Operations Officer

The operations role requires that I perform somewhat like an orchestra conductor. Monitoring the “score” for potential problems and opportunities, conducting strategies with division teams to offset deficiencies and maximize revenues, and queueing the direction of our corporate sales force to provide tactical support to communities in need. Fundamentally, the operations function is to ensure that our business runs efficiently, effectively, and financially profitable for owners and resident satisfaction.

My entry into senior housing may have been fate. In 1999, I landed a wonderful role as Assistant Executive Director of an independent living community with an attached skilled nursing facility. This proved to be a stimulating challenge and opened my eyes to a new passion… an affinity for our aging population. By 2002, I was promoted to Executive Director of an assisted living facility and remained there until joining SRI in 2010. When I was selected to lead the company’s operations role, I was both honored and grateful – – working in an industry that I truly love, and surrounding myself with people who are tremendously capable. That’s my formula for success.

I envision great and rapid changes in our company and communities in the very near future… we already have so much on the drawing board. Imagine iPads in residences, for food delivery orders and communications with service and care associates. Sensory environments designed for experiential enhancement. New activity programming, suited to a healthier and longer-living boomer generation. The future is certainly exciting.

If I were looking for someone to run my community, I would find someone who would run it like they were the owner. I believe that is what we do. We operate with all the pride, attention to detail and true concern of an owner.

Seth Walker, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

As the company’s chief financial officer, my role is the management of the corporate accounting and finance department; ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting to all of our stakeholders, including owners, managers, and banks. I manage the company’s owner and lender relationships and work with our operators to identify and exploit opportunities and spot negative trends before they become issues.

I worked my way through college preparing individual and business tax returns at a local CPA firm, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Florida. After college, I moved to Atlanta and joined Deloitte, conducting audits in the construction, retail, real estate, and software industries. Subsequently, I accepted a role with PwC in the financial due diligence arm of Mergers and Acquisitions, working on deals ranging in size from $40-million to over a billion dollars, primarily in healthcare – including senior housing. It was this valuable experience that eventually led me to my current role at SRI Management.

From a business standpoint, senior housing has a reputation for being old and dated (not ironically…) and many companies are slow to make changes. Forward-thinking organizations like SRI Management are rushing to integrate the digital world, pushing the benefits of technology, information-driven services, and decision-making.

I believe the future of senior housing will be targeting the middle-income market. The current construction boom has primarily focused on high-end and high-cost communities. The impending growth from the aging baby boomer generation will dictate a huge need for quality and economical products, which does not exist in large capacity today.

Daniel Almendares

Senior Vice President of Operations

Operations is ever-changing requiring flexibility and adaptability. Plans change, and we make sure the business can change and grow in conjunction. The enjoyment of working in operations comes from interacting with all departments and levels. The connections built with my colleagues through these conversations and shared goals deepens my understanding of the business. Our relationships perpetuate honesty about where the organization can improve as a whole unit instead of individual departments.

Senior housing operations is where I have built my career, but it is certainly not what I envisioned. I always planned on becoming a doctor and obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Florida, but after a semester at the University of South Florida, I realized it was no longer what drove me. With a passion for business and healthcare, I fell into the senior housing world and never looked back. I started with a small ALF owner/operator group and helped build the company over 7 years. In that time, I developed the entire structure from the ground up as we grew from 100 beds to close to 1,000. Concurrently, I obtained my Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida and grew from an administrator in training to the Vice President of Operations. I was brought into the SRI family to help continue our significant success.

SRI Management is uniquely positioned as a management company to bring maximum value and growth to our ownership groups and employees. It starts with our vision of treating others how we would like to be treated. Because of that core tenet, the operations of the communities we manage and employees within them are the main priority. Building upon this strong foundation is a company that is small enough to easily maneuver within a rapidly changing industry, but large enough to offer the resources and services even the largest of investor groups would find valuable.

Marisa Strain, RN

Chief Clinical Officer

As Chief Clinical Officer, I manage the clinical and quality improvement initiatives while being directly responsible for risk management, process and protocols, clinical training, regulatory compliance, and care programs.

With over 30 years of experience as a registered nurse, I am a senior-level clinician and have dedicated my career to innovative solutions that improve quality and the client experience. Additionally, I represent SRI Management within the Florida Senior Living Association and serve as the education committee chair.

Before joining SRI Management, I was the Operations Coordinator for Assisted Living at Kindred at Home in the Florida Panhandle. I provided the division’s clinical oversight for skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Serving as Kindred’s chief clinical liaison helped me engage with multiple assisted living leaders to develop several best-practice programs and protocols.

At SRI Management, we strive to be the leader in senior living, and my passion is to ensure we deliver peace of mind to our community’s residents and family members by delivering unwavering, high-quality clinical experience and care. Leading our clinical teams in this endeavor is an absolute honor.

Our team leads the industry.
