Slowly Reopening Florida: What Does This Mean for Senior Living?

On April 29th 2020, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Phase 1 in his plan to re-open. This plan comes after meeting with President Donald Trump and the Governor’s task force recommendations, as well as other input the Governor received from medical professionals.

Phase 1 includes smaller measures to open certain businesses at a limited capacity, while maintaining social distancing. As part of this plan, senior living communities will not be reopened for visitors during this time. Seniors are vulnerable to COVID-19, so it is essential they are protected from visitors until further notice.

We are continuing to practice social distancing (maintaining distances of six feet between residents), temporarily suspend communal activities, clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces on each shift with greater frequency, and track and supply personal protective equipment for each community. We continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on COVID-19 and screen all essential third-party visitors (healthcare, etc.), residents and staff.

If you or a loved one is in need of senior housing but have not had the opportunity to schedule a virtual visit, reach out to your community directly to find what options are available for video chat and calls.
